ABOUT KCNW

Nature Should Be Closer To Home

Kansas City Nature Works is a growing community initiative working to reconnect Kansas City’s urban core to nature through Blue River access, beautification, environmental awareness, and community partnership. For residents in the urban core, especially on the East Side, safe and welcoming entry points to the Blue River are limited. Our goal is to make nature access more visible, more local, and more equitable for the communities too often left out of the conversation.

The mission of Kansas City Nature Works is to expand Blue River access, restore and beautify overlooked natural spaces, and help reconnect Kansas City’s urban core to nature through stewardship, awareness, and community partnership.

The current public fundraising effort is focused on helping build an inner-city kayak launch on the Blue River so more Kansas City residents can access the river closer to home.

You can support Kansas City Nature Works by donating to the fundraiser, sharing the campaign, joining the mailing list, or connecting the initiative with potential partners and community supporters.

BLUE RIVER ACCESS

Reconnect Kansas City to the Blue River

CURRENT CAMPAIGN

Help Us Bring the Vision to Life

We are raising funds to install a public kayak ramp and river access point along the Lower Blue River aligned with the current 5-mile Renew the Blue restoration project, stretching from Blue Valley Park at 23rd Street to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at the Blue River Trailhead.

This launch will:
• Activate newly restored riverbanks
• Connect ecological restoration with recreation
• Provide safe, ADA accessible river entry
• Create a visible and welcoming public access point

Everyone deserves the peace of the river. Help us build the first inner city kayak launch on the Blue River so Kansas City residents can paddle, fish, and connect with nature close to home.
