About Us

Nature Closer to Home

Kansas City Nature Works is a growing community initiative working to reconnect Kansas City’s urban core to nature through Blue River access, beautification, environmental awareness, and community partnership.

For residents in the urban core, especially on the East Side, safe and welcoming entry points to the Blue River are limited. Our goal is to make nature access more visible, more local, and more equitable for the communities too often left out of the conversation.

OUR BELIEFS

What We Believe

We believe the Blue River should be more visible, more accessible, and more valued by the communities it already runs beside.
We believe overlooked natural spaces in the urban core deserve attention, care, and investment.
We believe access to beauty, outdoor experience, and environmental connection should be a real part of neighborhood life in KC. Not something distant, hidden, or reserved for only a few parts of the city.

Our Mission

Why This Work Matters

Kansas City Nature Works exists to expand Blue River access, restore and beautify overlooked natural spaces, and help reconnect Kansas City’s urban core to nature through stewardship, awareness, and community partnership.

The Blue River is already part of Kansas City’s landscape, but for many residents in the urban core, it is still not part of daily life. Kansas City Nature Works is working to help shift that story from distance to access, from neglect to visibility, and from disconnection to shared civic care.

WHAT WE’RE BUILDING

Building Access, Stewardship, & Community Connection

Kansas City Nature Works is building toward a more visible, more local, and more connected relationship between Kansas City communities and the natural spaces around them.

This work includes Blue River access, urban beautification, education and awareness, stronger neighborhood stewardship, and growing partnership across schools, civic leaders, conservation-minded organizations, and local supporters.

Blue River Access

We are working to support safer, more visible access to the Blue River, beginning with the vision for an inner-city kayak launch that serves KC communities closer to home.

Urban Beautification

We want to help restore attention, care, and pride around overlooked natural spaces in the urban core through restoration-minded action and place-based stewardship.

Education & Awareness

Kansas City Nature Works helps people better understand the value of rivers, green space, ecology, and environmental connection in everyday city life.

This Is For

Families, youth, elders, schools, neighborhood residents, conservation-minded partners, civic leaders, and everyday Kansas Citians who want a more beautiful and connected city.
